Tsunami - January 2005
Happy New Year!
Not for everyone. We woke to the news on Boxing Day of the Tsunami. We now know that over 124,000 people have been killed and an estimated five million survivors are left without the basic survival essentials of water, food or shelter.
So what can we do in the face of such depressing facts? Lots! There are always two things we can do – pray and act.
- We can pray for the Christians there, for their own needs and that God would use and empower them to help those around them, that they’d be an example of a hope that’s bigger than our life here on earth.
- We can act. Maybe you’ve already given to the appeal, but I would strongly urge you to give some money (you can give at any Post Office). One look around Tunbridge Wells’ shops after Christmas was enough to show that people are passionate about shopping and buying more stuff. Instead, as Christians, let’s go without some stuff and let’s use our money for something far more amazing; for people, for their lives, to help them rebuild.
